The Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA) is the leading professional association dedicated to enhancing opportunities for Latinos in the accounting, finance and related professions. ALPFA is a not-for-profit entity registered with the Internal Revenue Service. Membership is open to anyone who shares our values, mission, and principles.

Charlotte

On October 15th, 2003, the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA) formally launched the Charlotte-Raleigh chapter.  The celebration took place in the Bank of America Corporate Center Lobby in Charlotte at 100 N. Tryon Street.  Bank of America was the sponsor of this the kick-off event.  Manny Espinoza, ALPFA's CEO, gave a presentation about ALPFA's history, mission, and vision.  Dan Ramirez, Mecklenburg County Commissioner, was the guest speaker discussing Hispanic leadership development in the Charlotte-Raleigh community.  The Charlotte-Raleigh board members were in charge of the event.

Some Charlotte chapter accomplishments:

IN 2006…

  • Strong attendance to ALPFA National Convention in Fort Worth, TX in July 2006.  Significant presence from two local companies: Bank of America and Wachovia.
  • Organized an event with the Compass Group, which donated 2 $1,250 scholarships (for NC students),
  • Opened Student Chapter at Belmont Abbey College, in August 2006,
  • Duke Energy donated $5,000 for scholarships.

IN 2007…

Partnered with the Latin America Chamber of Commerce of Charlotte to host Tapas events (every second Tuesday of each month)

  • Secured sponsorships from Wake Forest (MBA Program) and Compass Group
  • Initiated conversations with Prudential Financial and Hudson Financial Solutions to add them as sponsors
  • Hosted CPE session in April 2006 with PwC on Fraud
  • Almost doubled the number of members ALPFA Charlotte had in 2006
  • Three major events in the second half of the year:
